At the 2022 Leaders & Learners Breakfast, Board Chairman Cindy Anderson announced a new initiative for 2022-2023, the Innovators’ Fund. This fund will be used to enhance, support, and drive creativity and innovation at all levels in FCPS, particularly related to STEM education. Educate Fairfax will match the first $50,000 in donations to this fund!

Joel Bassam with Easterns Automotive Group wanting to support that cause by providing a 7News Helping Hand.  He selected the annual Collect for Kids effort and WJLA was there to capture the magic of giving in action.

“Educate Fairfax is an amazing organization supporting both the students and teachers of Fairfax County Public Schools,” Bassam said. “We wanted to help you guys out by donating $2,000 to support 200 students to get their school year started off right by providing school supplies. Continue doing the amazing work you are doing. We can’t wait to see you again.”

Educate Fairfax Executive Director Elizabeth Murphy and Londontown Elementary School Principal Wiatte Padmore, were on hand to accept the donation.  Educate Fairfax supports the Collect for Kids effort each by providing basic supply kits , each costing about $10.  Easterns’ donation will help Educate Fairfax provide for 200 students in need this year.

Educate Fairfax, its staff and board, believes that our vibrant and successful school system contributes to a great quality of life here in Fairfax County. By highlighting its amazing graduates, we are drawing the connection that tomorrow’s stellar community leaders, business owners, and servant leaders are currently students in our schools right now.

Educate Fairfax is here to make sure all of them have a path to success.

This year’s class of Hall of Fame inductees include a life-long diplomat, a war hero, entrepreneurs, a lawyer and inventor, a young published author and filmmaker, an Olympic athlete, and one of FCPS’s leadership team!

For more than 150 years, Fairfax County Public Schools has been educating students to excel in all aspects of life. At the regular meeting on October 21, 2021, Educate Fairfax staff and board members were recognized by the School Board for ten years of service to the county’s public schools. The Board commended them on the new name and brand and for raising nearly $6,000,000 to support FCPS over the past few years.

This year we were reminded of the impact that teachers have on students, both in and out of the classroom.  A talented teacher can ignite a student’s passion for learning, leading or performing. A great teacher can truly transform a student’s life.  In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7), we invite you to make a donation in the name of an FCPS educator who made a difference in your life, or the life of your student.  These funds will be used to support our annual Teacher Grants, which encourage innovation and creative learning in the classroom. The Foundation for FCPS invites teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to apply for its annual grant program for projects to be completed in the 2021-2022 school year. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the grant priorities have been modified this year. The Foundation will provide up to $1,500 for classroom initiatives that focus on one of three areas: continuity of learning, building or recovery of math and literacy skills, or social-emotional learning.

The pandemic has impacted many of our students, especially those with limited access to food. During this season, the Foundation wants to be sure our neediest students can enjoy the simple pleasure of a holiday meal with family or friends. Project Cornucopia is a donation campaign that will provide gift cards that can be redeemed for groceries. This effort will run through December 31st. Click here to donate to Project Cornucopia.
